Lawyer appeals against Tbilisi City Court's decision to grant bail of 1 million GEL to Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze

According to Archil Chavchanidze, the lawyer for the leaders of the Lelo-Strong Georgia Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze, the Tbilisi City Court’s decision to grant bail of 1 million GEL to the party leaders has been appealed to the Court of Appeal.

According to the lawyer, they filed a complaint “formally” in order to use all the means here in order be able to dispute the violation of fundamental rights in the Strasbourg Court.

“Despite the fact that we do not have high expectations of the Georgian judiciary, we have filed an appeal, requesting the cancellation of the preventive measure. Since neither the Prosecutor's Office nor the court could satisfy their own decision, which should meet the reasonable standard. Accordingly, the Prosecutor's Office could not present even a single piece of indirect evidence that would confirm the participation of Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze in the act of sabotage or in the implementation of any specific action. The Prosecutor's Office was obliged to satisfy this standard of reasonable assumption with a set of information.

The court issued and unfortunately signed an act of political persecution. Of course, we formally appealed because we have to use all the means here in order be able to dispute the violation of fundamental rights in the Strasbourg Court, which includes the right to a fair trial", - the lawyer said.

The Tbilisi City Court, in the so-called sabotage case, fully satisfied the prosecutor's motion against the leaders of Lelo-Strong Georgia, Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze, and granted them bail in the amount of one million GEL each as a preventive measure. The deadline for paying the bail was set at 30 days.
