The Tbilisi City Court found Nika Melia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, an administrative violator and imposed a fine of 5,000 GEL on him.
Today's trial considered the case of Nika Melia's administrative detention near the Lisi Lake. Two police officers were presented as witnesses at the hearing.
In their testimonies given at the court hearing, both law enforcement officers stated that Nika Melia insulted the police while they were performing their official duties. According to Nika Melia himself, he had not insulted the police and nothing like that had happened. According to Melia, there were about 50 police officers at the scene when he was detained. In turn, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated at the hearing that there were only three of them when Melia was detained.
One of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, Nika Melia, was arrested in May of this year. According to the coalition, law enforcement officers detained Nika Melia near the Lisi Lake when he was on his way to participate in one of the programs.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the leader of the Coalition for Change was arrested under the Code of Administrative Offenses. In particular, according to the agency, Nika Melia was detained under Article 173 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Georgia, which implies verbal insults or other offensive actions against an employee of a law enforcement agency.
