Grigol Gegelia: The conversation with the PACE delegation touched on the repressive policy pursued by the Georgian Dream regime, which poses a challenge to Georgian democracy

The conversation touched on all the main issues that are facing Georgian democracy as a challenge, Grigol Gegelia, one of the leaders of Lelo - Strong Georgia, stated at the meeting with the delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

According to Grigol Gegelia, the conversation also touched on the general political situation and the action plan.

“The conversation touched on the repressive policy pursued by the Georgian Dream regime, including, of course, the issue of banning parties, as well as the issue of the past elections, local elections, future plans, how we view the survival of Georgian democracy, the general political situation and the action plan. We had a regular meeting, as always, in a consultative mode, where we presented our views on behalf of Lelo-Strong Georgia”, - said Grigol Gegelia.

When asked whether sanctions were discussed at the meeting, Grigol Gegelia replied: “Sanctions are not the prerogative of this delegation of the Council of Europe”.

“This is a relevant representation of the Council of Europe, so there is no point in talking about sanctions because the executive branch is not represented. Sanctions are not the prerogative of this delegation of the Council of Europe. Our message regarding sanctions is always very clear, specific individuals who represent the violent regime of the Dream should be the subject of targeted sanctions, and not the Georgian people. Lelo has never demanded the privatization of Georgia, the privatization of the Georgian people, including the suspension of the visa-free regime for the Georgian people or the suspension of the candidate status," Grigol Gegelia said.
