Municipalities will have the opportunity to implement various infrastructure projects through state agencies until January 1, 2031, instead of 2026

Municipalities will be able to carry out various infrastructure projects through state agencies until January 1, 2031.

Until this date, the law defined by the “Local Self-Government Code” will remain in effect. According to this law, upon a municipality’s initiative and by government assignment, the relevant state agency is authorized to implement infrastructure projects necessary for the municipality to exercise its powers.

Previously, the provision was set to expire on January 1, 2026, but this deadline has now been extended to January 1, 2031.

According to the government, this extension is related to the duration and intensity of the work required to complete infrastructure projects. “Based on applications and the corresponding government decisions, preparatory work has already begun for the implementation of several infrastructure projects. Once completed, these projects will enter the active implementation phase. This timeline extends beyond the legally established deadline,” the government explained.

The issue will be considered by Parliament under an expedited procedure.
