EU Ambassador: The European Commission will publish a report on the visa suspension mechanism in December, including for Georgia, and the member states will discuss and make a decision

In December, next month, the European Commission will publish a report on the visa suspension mechanism, including for Georgia. This report will be shared with the member states, and the member states will discuss and make a decision, - the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Herczynski, told journalists.

When asked whether the change in the visa liberalization mechanism will affect senior Georgian government officials, the ambassador replied:

“I get this question quite often and I try not to answer it because I simply do not want to speculate. What I can tell you is that the new mechanism applies not only to Georgia, but to all countries that enjoy visa-free travel to the European Union. What I can tell you is that in December, next month, the European Commission will publish a report on the visa suspension mechanism, including for Georgia. This report will be shared with the member states and the member states will discuss it and make a decision. What kind of decision the member states will make is something I really do not want to speculate about,” the ambassador noted.

According to him, the European Commission asked the Georgian government for clarifications regarding the previous report and received a response, which is not satisfactory.

"As we all know, the European Commission has asked the Georgian authorities for clarifications on the implementation of the recommendations from the last visa-related report. The European Commission has received a response. As I understand it, this response is not satisfactory. Based on this response from the Georgian authorities, a new report on the visa suspension mechanism will be published in December. It will be shared with the member states and the they will make a decision," the Ambassador noted.
