The military aircraft that crashed in Georgia did not have any ammunition on board, according to Turkish media citing a statement from the country’s Ministry of National Defense.
“Our aircraft was carrying personnel and technical equipment. There was no ammunition on board,” the Turkish Defense Ministry said.
According to the ministry, flights of C-130 type military transport aircraft in Georgia have been suspended until the investigation into the cause of the crash is completed.
“As a precaution, C-130 flights have been suspended since November 12. The flights will resume after detailed technical inspections are completed,” the statement reads.
The ministry also noted that it is too early to comment on the causes of the crash.
“At this stage, it is premature to make comments about the cause of the incident. The investigation will determine the reasons for the incident,” the statement adds.
For reference, on November 11, a Turkish military aircraft crashed in the Sighnaghi municipality, approximately 5 kilometers from Georgia’s state border. The plane was flying from Azerbaijan to Turkey. The bodies of all 20 crew members killed in the crash have been recovered.
