Head of Government Administration meets US Department of State delegation

Levan Zhorzholiani, Head of Government Administration of Georgia met a US Department of State delegation led by Senior Advisor Jonathan Askonas.

According to the Government Administration, during the meeting, attention was focused on the steps taken by the Government of Georgia to strengthen the country's transit and connectivity functions. Levan Zhorzholiani provided the US side with information about major investments the Government of Georgia is implementing in railway, road and port infrastructure to advance these functions.

“The Head of Government Administration noted that the Government of Georgia is not satisfied with the current level of relations with the United States and reiterated its readiness to renew the strategic partnership from a clean slate, on the basis of a clear roadmap.

Georgia's position regarding the so-called Trump Route was also discussed at the meeting. It was noted that the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) could have a positive effect on the region, particularly in terms of the security guarantees provided by the US side for cargo movement.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of the Trump administration's efforts toward establishing peace in the region. Georgia's role in facilitating the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan was deemed positively.

The meeting at the Government Administration was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili and US Chargé d'Affaires in Georgia Alan S. Purcell”, reads the press release.
