Grigol Gegelia on the cancellation of the dialogue meeting with the European Union: We see suspicion that ‘Georgian Dream’ intended to include a sanctioned individual in the delegation - if so, this is a continuation of ‘GD-Russian’ cynicism — we are witnessing the results of ‘GD’ politics

“We are witnessing the results of ‘Georgian Dream’ politics, which is why Georgia is no longer part of the EU enlargement agenda,” said Grigol Gegelia, Foreign Secretary of Lelo – Strong Georgia, commenting on the postponement of the Georgia-EU dialogue meeting on human rights.

According to him, the EU enlargement agenda can only be restored if the government changes its course.

“‘Georgian Dream’ is no longer represented even in this format because, first and foremost, it is no longer a driver of the enlargement agenda. No one is interested in it anymore. In fact, Georgia’s EU enlargement agenda is practically halted. We see suspicion that ‘Georgian Dream’ intended to include in the delegation a person who is sanctioned for human rights violations. If this is the case, it is a continuation of ‘GD-Russian’ cynicism, whereby a person sanctioned for human rights violations is sent to discuss human rights.

We are witnessing the results of ‘GD’ politics, which is why Georgia is no longer part of the enlargement agenda. Key partners are no longer interested in us. Everyone believes that the enlargement agenda can only be restored if the established course changes and the anti-European regime is replaced,” Gegelia stated.

For reference, the Georgia-EU dialogue meeting on human rights, scheduled for November 21, 2025, in Brussels according to the agreement between the parties, was postponed a few days before the meeting at the EU’s decision.
