Solidarity march for Mate Devdize underway from TSU’s first building

A solidarity march for Mate Devdize, who is currently in prison, is underway from the first building of Tbilisi State University.

According to participants of the march, they will symbolically stop at Melikishvili Avenue, where Mate Devdize was arrested exactly one year ago, and the final destination will be Rustaveli Avenue.

Marchers are carrying Georgian and European Union flags and chanting: “Freedom to the regime’s prisoners.”

Today marks one year since Mate Devdize’s arrest.

20-year-old Mate Devdize was detained on November 19, 2024, during a protest, accused of attacking a police officer.

On June 12, Tbilisi City Court Judge Nino Galustashvili found Devdize guilty and sentenced him to 4 years and 6 months in prison.
