Of course, we were waiting for this meeting, which was being prepared for about 6 months - they themselves did not openly state the reason [for the postponement], but it only makes us think that this is an attempt to escape from the discussion, so as not to directly express to them the positions we hold, - Georgian Dream MP Giorgi Kakhiani told journalists, responding to Brussels' decision to cancel the Georgia-EU dialogue meeting.

According to Kakhiani, they had high expectations from the meeting in the sense that it would lead to a warming of relations, which are currently in an undesirable state.

“We have been hearing baseless statements regarding Georgia, as if rights are being violated and there is a certain setback in terms of democracy. We have not heard any evidence in this regard, and such a meeting would have given us the opportunity to clarify our position with the EU representatives and to hear from them, if they had evidence, about this. But we saw that this meeting was postponed for a completely incomprehensible reason. The first thing you would think in this regard is that they are avoiding the discussion because they do not have any evidence regarding what they often reproach us for. [The postponement] took place for this unclear reason. They themselves have not openly stated the reason, but it only makes us think that this is an attempt to avoid the discussion so that we do not have to directly express to them the positions we hold. At the same time, it seems that they do not have direct arguments regarding what they often reproach us for. I would like to say that we had high expectations from this meeting. In terms of the fact that this would lead to a warming of relations, which today, unfortunately, are in an undesirable state," Kakhiani said.

For information, the Georgia-EU dialogue meeting on human rights issues, which was scheduled for November 21, 2025 in Brussels by agreement between the parties, has been postponed several days before the meeting by the decision of the EU side.
