The delegation was going to Brussels, and if they could not receive these countries, they could have boldly allocated another place where they would have received this delegation - this is the reason for canceling this meeting, otherwise we are still ready for dialogue at any time and place, - the Chairman of the Parliament’s Committee on European Integration, Levan Makhashvili, said when responding to Brussels’ decision to cancel the Georgia-EU dialogue.
According to him, the actions and behavior that we saw from Brussels regarding the event planned for November 21 are a kindergarten.
As Makhashvili noted, the overturning of the dialogue table is a clear message that today there are more supporters of escalation than of dialogue in Brussels.
“The clear message we received from Brussels is that they are avoiding the dialogue table. The overturning of the dialogue table is a clear message that, as it seems, there are more supporters of escalation in Brussels today than of dialogue…
We are talking about independent decisions of member states to restrict the movement of anyone on their own territory. While we see how some EU capitals are rolling out the red carpet for cannibals and terrorists with great fanfare, such an explanation from Brussels is laughable against this background. What we see is a kindergarten - Georgia cannot be a kindergarten teacher when we see such childish actions on their part. If there is really an expectation of dialogue, we are ready to go not on November 21, but on December 1, not in Brussels, to any place, time and hour in Georgia - we will go to any place. If some representatives cannot be received in their country, we will go to wherever they will be received, if they don’t want to go there, they should come here. We were always ready for this dialogue – we were preparing for this meeting for about 6 months. The overturning of this table two days earlier is a direct message from Brussels that they are not ready for dialogue today.
The actions and behavior that we saw in connection with the event planned for November 21 are a kindergarten,” Makhashvili noted.
According to him,“no one was going to go for a walk in Brussels and the Georgian delegation was going to get concrete answers to the questions”.
“This delegation was not going to Estonia or Lithuania. This delegation was going to Brussels, and if they could not receive these countries, they could have boldly allocated another place where they would have received this delegation. This is an excuse to cancel this meeting, otherwise we are still ready for dialogue at any time and place. We also had legitimate questions and wanted to hear the positions of the European Union. However, they decided that Georgia should play the role of a kindergarten teacher. It cannot play, Georgia has other challenges, functions and tasks. We are ready to answer the questions, if they do not want to hear the answer and hear the text read from an ordinary employee, we will send this letter. The meeting is not necessary at all. This is a common excuse to avoid dialogue,” Makhashvili said.
For information, the Georgia-EU Human Rights Dialogue meeting, which was scheduled for November 21, 2025 in Brussels by agreement between the parties, has been postponed several days before the meeting by the decision of the EU side.
