Irakli Zarkua: It turns out we’re supposed to get Brussels bureaucrats’ permission for who we put in our delegation – that’s nonsense; just as we never asked Russia before, we won’t ask Euro-bureaucrats either

Apparently we have to clear with Brussels bureaucrats who we include in the delegation. That’s nonsense. We decide who will be in our delegation. Just as we never asked Russia about this in the past, the same will apply to Euro-bureaucrats, declared Irakli Zarkua, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Diaspora and Caucasus Issues, while commenting to journalists on Brussels’ decision to cancel the Georgia–EU dialogue.

According to him, Brussels refused the meeting because “they don’t want to hear the truth; if they did, we would tear off the mask from all their accusations and blackening of Georgia and demand answers.”

“It turns out we’re supposed to get permission from Brussels bureaucrats about who we put in the delegation. Nonsense! Why did they postpone the meeting? Because they don’t want to hear the truth – if they did, we would rip the mask off all their accusations and the smearing of Georgia and hold them accountable. That’s exactly why they refused the meeting. They accuse the state on specific issues yet refuse to meet the delegation. Why? Because they’re afraid we’ll tell them the truth.

“When their stooges here were screaming, after we passed the law on transparency [the foreign-agent law], we told them: come, maybe you’re right, let’s discuss it. Not a single one of them entered into discussion. The same thing is happening now – they’re afraid of discussion, of the clash of opinions, of arguments. They’re afraid of arguments because they’re not right.

“We will decide who is in our delegation. It will be staffed with the most competent and experienced people. Just as we never asked Russia before, we will not ask Euro-bureaucrats either,” Zarkua said.
