Zurab Abashidze on Luka Dzadzamia: I think we should show respect and let a person live peacefully - as for his participation in protests, how do we know what emotions Luka was experiencing back then? This is his personal matter

“I think we should respect [Luka Dzadzamia’s decision] and allow a person to live quietly and peacefully,” said the Chairman of Tbilisi City Assembly, Zurab Abashidze, in a comment to journalists regarding Luka Dzadzamia’s resignation from his mandate as a member of the City Assembly.

According to Zurab Abashidze, Luka Dzadzamia is “an erudite and well-mannered person, and his decision deserves respect.”

“We had the opportunity to hear from Luka himself what the reason was for leaving the Assembly, and I think this young man very clearly explained why he did so. I wish him success, because at his age he has achieved a lot already and may achieve even more in the future. He is a very erudite, well-brought-up person, and I think his decision should be respected. Everyone makes decisions independently.

He simply said that recently he had been subjected to very serious insults and bullying on the Internet, and all of us who follow these topics and take pleasure in reading such things have witnessed it,” said Zurab Abashidze.

Regarding the video footage showing Luka Dzadzamia attending a protest — footage that Dzadzamia explained “is not from 2024, but from a period between late 2022 and early 2023” — the Chairman of the City Assembly stated: “How do we know what emotions Luka was guided by back then?”

“What’s the problem? We are discussing things that require following emotions, yet how do we know what Luka’s emotional state was back then and what motivated him? He himself should speak about this, and later his change of position — that is his personal matter, just as any of us may have a personal space in life. These are his personal decisions and, because he found himself in the public space, he had to comment on them. Otherwise, we might make many decisions and change them without society being interested at all. This is one of those cases where there is interest, but I still think this is a personal issue, and this young man, Luka, made a decision once, then reconsidered it and made the decision he made. Therefore, I think we should respect all of this and allow him to live quietly and peacefully,” Abashidze said.

For reference, the mandate of newly elected “Georgian Dream” member Luka Dzadzamia has been terminated in the Tbilisi City Assembly. According to Luka Dzadzamia, he resigned from his mandate based on his own decision.

21-year-old Luka Dzadzamia entered the Assembly through the proportional list of “Georgian Dream.”
