Tengiz Sharmanashvili on hunger strikers - This protest will not succeed - I call on them to stop this and to return to the usual forms of opposition

Georgian Dream MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili is calling on the nine people on hunger strike outside parliament to end their hunger strike.

As Sharmanashvili notes, it is inconceivable that this protest will succeed.

"This protest will not succeed. Such a thing is unthinkable. Then any person would commit such a self-destruction and demand a change in state policy. It is unthinkable that anyone would follow this. Let me look at this from a human perspective and not say it like a political opponent - I would like this to end. Whether he is my opponent or not, he is my citizen and I would not wish serious harm to his health in any way. Not to mention a more serious outcome. I would call on them to stop this and return to the usual forms of opposition. If they distance themselves from this radicalism and extremism, everything will be in order, including the issue of opposition," Sharmanashvili said.

For information, Gedevan Popkhadze resorted to an extreme form of protest on October 28 and went on a hunger strike. Darejan Tskhvitaria and several other activists declared a hunger strike together with the opposition leader. Their demand is "to release political prisoners and to schedule new parliamentary elections."
