Human rights defender Lasha Tkesheladze said this at a briefing.
He also stated that Justice Minister Paata Salia must publicly guarantee that any prisoner who speaks out and tells the truth will not be punished.
"Prisoners in Gldani Prison No. 8 are all telling us the same thing: spoiled and worm-infested food, filth, and inhumane conditions inside the prison.
Mr. Salia, you and your ministry keep telling us that all of this is lies, fabricated stories, pure falsehoods.
I have one simple request: open the doors of Prison No. 8 and let the media inside! Open the doors of Prison No. 8 and allow journalists into the warehouses, the kitchen, and the cells. Let society see the truth with its own eyes – if you have nothing to hide.
And right now, give a public guarantee that any prisoner who dares to speak the truth, who raises their voice and talks about the problems, will not be punished. These people have family members behind them who are worried sick about them. If you want the public to see the truth, open the prison doors – if you truly have nothing to hide," Tkesheladze said.
