The State Language Department provides information regarding the administration of the state language exam.
According to the department, from 2026, a certification exam in the Georgian language will be conducted. Based on the results of the exam, a certificate will be issued, which can be used both within Georgia and abroad.
“In accordance with the Unified Program (Strategy) for the State Language, starting from 2026, a Georgian language exam will be held. The exam will be administered several times each year by the National Center for Assessment and Examinations, based on the Common European Framework for Languages in learning, teaching, and assessment. On the basis of this exam, the State Language Department will issue a certificate, which can be used both in Georgia and outside the country.
The introduction of a unified examination system will ultimately establish a standardized system for learning, teaching, and assessing the Georgian language, which will support the civic integration of Georgia’s multilingual society and remove obstacles to the functioning of the state language.
The Georgian language certification exam will be equally important for foreign and/or non-Georgian-speaking students wishing to continue their studies in Georgia, for foreign citizens eligible to work in the public sector, for Georgian emigrants living abroad, and for non-Georgian-speaking employees in the business sector. This exam may also be used to assess the Georgian language proficiency of students in non-Georgian-language schools and to prepare them for the national exams,” the information states.
