The pretrial hearing for politicians Paata Burcukuladze, Murtaz Zodelava, Irakli Nadiradze, Paata Manjgaladze, Lasha Beridze, Irakli Shaishmelashvili, and five other individuals — Irakli Chkhvirkhiya, Guri Zhvania, Nika Gwentsadze, and Tornike Mchedlishvili — who were detained in connection with the events near the Atoneli Palace on October 4, will take place tomorrow, November 26.
The hearing is scheduled at the Tbilisi City Court at 12:00 PM.
During the session, the admissibility of evidence will be discussed. In addition, the pretrial detention measures for the detainees and for former high-ranking Ministry of Internal Affairs official, Irakli Shaishmelashvili, who is currently wanted, will be reconsidered. It will also be decided whether the case will be referred to the court for substantive examination.
For reference: Murtaz Zodelava, Paata Burcukuladze, and Irakli Nadiradze are charged under Article 19-222, Part 2(a) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which concerns the attempt to seize and block strategic and particularly important facilities committed by a group. They also face charges under Article 225, Part 1, which relates to organizing and leading group violence, and Article 317, which involves publicly calling for the violent overthrow of Georgia’s constitutional order or the government, punishable by up to 9 years in prison.
Irakli Shaishmelashvili is charged under Article 317, which involves publicly calling for the violent overthrow of Georgia’s constitutional order or the government, punishable by up to 3 years in prison.
Lasha Beridze is charged under Article 19-222, Part 2(a) for the attempt to seize and block strategic and particularly important facilities committed by a group. He is also charged under Article 225, Part 1, concerning organizing and leading group violence.
Irakli Chkhvirkhiya, Nika Gwentsadze, and Tornike Mchedlishvili are charged under Article 19-222, Part 2(a) for attempting to seize and block strategic and particularly important facilities as a group, as well as under Article 225, Part 1, concerning organizing and leading group violence. These acts carry a penalty of 6 to 9 years in prison.
Guri Zhvania is charged under Article 225, Part 2, for participation in group violence.
Paata Manjgaladze is charged under Article 225, Part 1, for organizing group violence. This carries a penalty of 6 to 9 years in prison.
