Parliament supports abolition of temporary administrative-territorial unit on the territory of the former South Ossetian Autonomous Region in the first reading

The Parliament supported the abolition of the temporary administrative-territorial unit on the territory of the former South Ossetian Autonomous Region and the liquidation of the administration.

The relevant decision was adopted by 86 votes (1 against), in the first reading.

On the initiative and with the support of the Georgian Dream, two laws are declared invalid - the law “On the Creation of Appropriate Conditions for the Peaceful Resolution of the Conflict in the Former South Ossetian Autonomous Region” and the law “On Property Restitution and Compensation for Victims of the Conflict in the Former South Ossetian Autonomous Region on the Territory of Georgia”.

The temporary administration will be liquidated from January 1, 2026. The administration employees will be given compensation in the amount of 3 months’ salary.

The authors and initiators of the draft law are members of the parliamentary majority: - Giorgi Volski, Irakli Kirtskhalia, Archil Gorduladze, Rati Ionatamishvili, Aluda Ghudushauri, Davit Matikashvili, Guram Macharashvili, Akaki Aladashvili, Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Aleksandre Tabatadze and Tornike Cheishvili.
