Nino Tsilosani: I would not be as desperate and disappointed as the German Ambassador — over time and with different bureaucrats involved, decisions have changed even in the best-case scenarios

"I would not be as desperate and disappointed as the German Ambassador. We know very well that over time and under circumstances of different bureaucrats, decisions — including political steps — have changed even from the best angle," said Vice-Speaker of Parliament Nino Tsilosani, commenting on the statement made by the German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer.

According to her, Georgia will once again have its say within the European Union — if the EU itself is seriously determined to be a strong, objective, and fair union.

"Georgia is the target of special attacks and blackmail. We did not fulfill certain completely inappropriate demands, including the demand to abolish the law on family values. Against this background, a degree of blackmail is, of course, probably logical. This statement by the German Ambassador is a continuation of that — an attempt to further aggravate the perceptions that should form among the Georgian people.

I want to once again assure both our citizens and our partners that Georgia is one of the most distinguished EU candidate countries — not only among the candidates, but even among the member states. I believe Georgia will once again have its say within the European Union, of course, if the EU itself is seriously determined to be a strong and objectively fair union," Tsilosani said.

For reference, the German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, told “Radio Liberty” that the European Union is no longer working on enlargement with Georgia.

According to him, the European Council will likely confirm this in December.

"Germany is no longer working on enlargement with regard to Georgia, and no one in the EU is working on it anymore. Most likely, in December the European Council will confirm this, and the matter will be closed due to the actions of the Georgian side," the ambassador stated.
