Tazo Datunashvili: The main challenge for our citizens is the catastrophic rise in prices – in this situation, the government talking about high economic growth and a “shining country” is shameless

In October 2025, inflation on basic food products reached 11.7% — there is also extremely high inflation in healthcare services, Executive Secretary of “Strong Georgia – Lelo”, Tazo Datunashvili, stated during a briefing.

According to Datunashvili, “In the context of inflation, the government’s talk about high economic growth, about a country that is shining and an economy that is moving only in a positive direction, is shameless and simply a lie.”

“Georgian citizens will have to prepare their New Year tables under conditions of severe inflation. The main challenge for our citizens is the catastrophic rise in prices. The National Statistics Office has published the inflation index. The annual figure for October 2025 is 5.2%, but this global number does not reflect the real problem that inflation creates for Georgian citizens. Specifically, in October 2025, inflation on basic food products was recorded at 11.7%, which is a catastrophic figure.

In this category, inflation rates are: fruit 21%, vegetables 19.4%, sugar 17.2%, fish 16.9%, oil 13.9%, bread 12.4%, and milk/cheese/eggs 8.1%.

For essential products overall, the rate amounts to approximately 20%. If we look at this in a broader context and analyze price growth from 2012 until today, we will see 103%, 107%, 150% increases in the mentioned products, and even 200% increases in some food items.

For Georgian citizens, the extremely high inflation in healthcare services is also devastating. Specifically, medical service prices increased by 9.3% in October, while hospital outpatient services rose by 9.2%.

In this situation, the government talking about high economic growth, a “shining country,” and an economy moving only in a positive direction is shameless and simply a lie,” — said Tazo Datunashvili.
