Regarding the events of October 4, Alexander Gogoladze, who was detained, said: “Give me the maximum sentence possible, I will endure everything – I was forced to go there out of responsibility, thinking about what I am leaving for the youth, by this old man. I am outside, I am in prison, I am here and I am in prison. This is also my achievement and my conscience.” He made this statement near the Atoneli Palace in relation to the events of October 4.
He does not admit to the charges brought against him.
"I was forced to go to the protest. If you want to know what forced me, I will tell you. I am 63 years old and until now, I have never had any contact with the law. For 50 years, I was always afraid of one question: my daughter, your colleague, sitting in the courtroom one day, asking me, ‘What did you leave me, father?’ This is not about the economy. What I started in 1982 is still the same, and even worse: injustice, illegality, trampling on human rights. I am outside, I am in prison, I am here and I am in prison. This is my achievement and my conscience. Madam Lela [Judge], you sit, deliberate, and give me the maximum punishment possible – I will endure everything. Responsibility forced me to go there – thinking about what I am leaving for the youth, by this old man. All of this is a forced action, Madam Lela. Your punishment for me is a crown, an acknowledgment. If I were young, this would have been an achievement for me, I would have become politically ‘seated,’ what kind of heroism is this for me?" – Gogoladze said.
