Around 60 employees of the National Assessment and Examinations Center and the Youth Agency have been dismissed on political grounds – personnel changes aim to eliminate dissent in the country and preserve the power of the “Georgian Dream,” — this was stated by the “For Georgia with Gakharia” MP Tata Khvedeliani during a briefing.
According to her, “Since the start of the repressions, nearly 900 conscientious public servants across the country have already been dismissed, more than half of whom are women.”
“The political persecution of public servants and illegal dismissals by the ‘Georgian Dream’ continue, now targeting the Ministry of Education and its subordinate institutions.
There is political persecution disguised as reorganization in the Ministry of Education against those who still disagree with the de facto government regarding changes in foreign policy and who publicly express dissenting opinions. Around 60 employees of the National Assessment and Examinations Center and the Youth Agency have been dismissed on political grounds.
The persecution of public servants by the ‘Georgian Dream’ began systematically exactly one year ago, when they first expressed dissent regarding the country’s changed foreign policy. The dismissal of competent public servants continues while members of the “Georgian Dream” party cadre employed in public institutions collect salaries from the public budget without actually showing up to work. Since the start of the repressions, nearly 900 conscientious public servants across the country have been dismissed, more than half of whom are women.
I have already addressed the Minister of Education and Science with a parliamentary question, requesting an explanation as to the purpose behind dismissing conscientious and experienced public servants and persecuting those with dissenting opinions within the Ministry. In addition, our team is beginning active consultations with current and former public servants, aimed at taking effective steps using parliamentary oversight in accordance with the current situation.
“The ongoing personnel changes do not serve to strengthen state institutions or consider the interests of the people; they are aimed at eliminating dissent in the country and maintaining the power of the ‘Georgian Dream’,” Khvedeliani stated.
