Civil Aviation Agency - No flight has been operated from the illegally opened airport in occupied Abkhazia to Tbilisi

The Civil Aviation Agency states that no flight has been operated from the illegally opened airport in occupied Abkhazia to Tbilisi.

As the agency explains, deliberate disinformation is being spread on certain social media pages, according to which on November 28 of this year, the airline Azimuth operated a flight from Sokhumi to Tbilisi, which is the data incorrectly recorded on www.flightradar24.com.

According to the agency, on November 28 of this year, a flight from Minvod to Tbilisi (AZO6153) was operated by the airline Azimuth.

“The flight in question is a multiple, irregular flight, which is operated on the Minvod - Tbilisi - Minvod air route on the basis of an appropriate permit. Details related to the flight, flight number, aircraft registration number and other data are reflected in the flight plan.

We would like to note that the data retrieved from various Internet platforms used for real-time tracking of commercial flights may contain various errors, therefore, we urge interested persons or media outlets to verify the data with the authorized agencies before disseminating information.

Once again, we emphasize and categorically state that no flight has been operated from the illegally opened airport in occupied Abkhazia to Tbilisi. The operation of flights from the Sokhumi airport, which has been closed by the Georgian side since 1993, is a violation of both international aviation norms and Georgian legislation (the Law on the Occupied Territories). Sokhumi Airport is not certified by the Civil Aviation Agency of Georgia. Carrying out air traffic from an airport that does not have an aerodrome suitability certificate issued by an authorized body, in addition to being a violation of the legislation, poses a threat to aviation and passenger safety. Accordingly, permission for flights from such an illegally operated airport has not and cannot be issued by the Georgian aviation authorities," reads the information.
