MIA seizes over 18 kilograms of methadone: Ukrainian citizen detained

Law enforcement officers have seized more than 18 kilograms of the narcotic substance methadone and have detained a citizen of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reports.

According to the ministry, the MIA continues its uncompromising fight against the illegal circulation and distribution of narcotics intensively across the country.

The offense carries a penalty of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

“Law enforcement officers seized the particularly large quantity of narcotics during a search of the vehicle and the residence in the Mtskheta municipality of P.K., born in 1988. The police have detained P.K. on charges of illegal acquisition, possession, and facilitation of the sale of a particularly large quantity of narcotics.

As a result of the investigative actions, the police also confiscated materials necessary for packaging the narcotic substance.

This police operation was carried out by officers of the Central Criminal Police Department in cooperation with other police units.

The investigation is ongoing under Articles 260 and 260^4 of the Criminal Code.

Relevant units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs continue, 24 hours a day, to identify individuals involved in drug-related crimes and to take the appropriate measures provided by law against them,” the statement reads.
