Guram Macharashvili on Aleko Elisashvili: This is a classic example of what kind of so-called politicians the “Global War Party” has in Georgia – they might even tell us that this, too, falls under the format of freedom of expression, and don’t be surprised

“These people want to come to power in Georgia — look at how they behave when they don’t have power, and imagine what they would do if they did have power. They would do things two or three times worse than what we saw before 2012,” said “People’s Power” MP Guram Macharashvili in response to the arrest of “Lelo – For a Strong Georgia” member Aleko Elisashvili.

Macharashvili claimed that this case is a “classic example of what the face of the local representatives of the Deep State and the Global War Party looks like.”

“We’ve said many times that the Deep State, the Global War Party with its local branches, has been defeated in Georgia. On October 4 they were finally broken — the scenario of overthrow and revolution and any illusion of their victory collapsed. Since then they’ve been enraged, and the case of Elisashvili is a classic example of this.”

“They may even tell us that this falls under the format of freedom of expression — and don’t be surprised. They will come out and say that early in the morning, someone who is supposedly oppositional can break into the court building, destroy windows, and physically assault bailiffs. This is a classic example of what kind of so-called politicians the Global War Party has in Georgia.”

Macharashvili continued:

“These people want to come to government in Georgia. They don’t have power now, and look how they behave — and if they had power, they would do things twice or three times worse than before 2012. This is a classic example of what the face of the Deep State and the Global War Party’s local representatives looks like. These are the people who pretend to be politicians.”

“I’m curious how the people who support them will justify this and how they will dare to say that this also fits within the format of freedom of expression. This is clearly a crime — even though the court has not yet issued a verdict.”

For reference, “Lelo – For a Strong Georgia” member Aleko Elisashvili has been arrested. According to the Interior Ministry, Elisashvili attempted early this morning to set fire to the Chancellery building of Tbilisi City Court.

The Interior Ministry reports: “According to the investigation, on November 29, in the early morning, Aleksandre Elisashvili, masked, used a hammer to smash the exterior window of the Chancellery building of Tbilisi City Court, entered the interior space, poured gasoline around the perimeter — including on office items, equipment, and documentation — and attempted to set the building on fire. The bailiff service officers caught him at the scene. Elisashvili resisted with the use of a firearm in his possession and physically assaulted the officers. Despite the resistance, Elisashvili was arrested on the spot. One bailiff was taken to a medical clinic due to injuries sustained in the confrontation. Elisashvili also received injuries during the arrest. The police seized the weapons used in the crime as evidence. At this stage, the investigation is underway under Article 19-187 of the Criminal Code.”
