Due to New Year events, beginning December 1, vehicle traffic will be restricted on several streets in the capital — including Republic Square. From 20:00 on December 31, Rustaveli Avenue will be completely closed.
Starting from 01:00 on December 1 until 14:00 on January 20, 2026, vehicle and public transport movement will be restricted on several streets in Tbilisi.
The information is provided by Tbilisi City Hall.
According to the statement, during this period vehicle traffic will be fully restricted at First Republic Square — on the road section from the intersection of Merab Kostava Street and First Republic Square to Sandro Inashvili Street. Traffic will also be restricted from Rustaveli Avenue toward the Tbilisi State Concert Hall up to First Republic Square.
“During the restriction period, vehicles traveling from Revaz Tabukashvili Street toward Merab Kostava Street will be able to move only via Rustaveli Avenue instead of First Republic Square, and turning will be possible near the Olive Tree.”
From December 30 to January 1, 2026, additional restrictions will take effect. Specifically, for vehicles traveling from Rustaveli Avenue toward the Tbilisi State Concert Hall, movement via First Republic Square and Merab Kostava Street will be restricted; movement will also be limited from Revaz Tabukashvili Street via Sandro Inashvili Street to the area near the Olive Tree.
Movement from Rustaveli Avenue to Freedom Square will be possible only by turning near the Olive Tree, while driving will be permitted using Revaz Tabukashvili, Mikheil Javakhishvili, and other adjacent streets.
According to City Hall, on New Year’s Eve, from 20:00 on December 31 to 08:00 on January 1, vehicle traffic will be completely restricted on Rustaveli Avenue, First Republic Square, and Sandro Inashvili Street (from the side of Revaz Tabukashvili Street). Traffic will also be blocked near the Rustaveli metro station — from the intersection of Merab Kostava Street and Rustaveli Avenue to the Olive Tree.
“Drivers will only be able to move from Freedom Square if their vehicles continue driving in reverse direction by turning near the Olive Tree.
During this period, the public transport lines that connected to Nikoloz Baratashvili Street via Rustaveli Avenue will be redirected to Nikoloz Baratashvili Street via Mikheil Javakhishvili Street and the Zviad Gamsakhurdia Embankment and will continue operating under the established scheme. In the reverse direction, to reach Merab Kostava Street from Nikoloz Baratashvili Street, the same route will apply.”
Tbilisi City Hall apologizes for the inconvenience caused!”
