"We, those who want good for Georgia, have a hard life," Archbishop Iakob of Bodbeli said in his Sunday sermon.
He said it was wrong to write in the constitution that Georgia aspires to integration into the European Union and NATO.
"What do we want and what do we strive for? It was a while ago, since the 2020 elections. I said then and I still say today - it was wrong when some people force you to write something in the constitution. We wrote NATO and the European Union, and our country really followed it. What did we get? During the 2020 elections, or then during the 2024 elections, we, those people who want good for Georgia, have had a hard life. We should think about what the nation wants. Why are we fighting each other, what do we want? The topic of the elections failed and a new topic“Arabization” has emerged” said Bishop Iakob.
According to him, today the church stands where it should stand.
“If there was anything in the recent history of Georgia, the church has always stood where it should stand. Today, a certain number of people think that Georgia is in danger, that we are threatened by Arabization, some are afraid of Russia, some of Europe. I turned on the TV and they were shouting, where is the Patriarchate? The Patriarchate is an institution where the Patriarch conducts his services, and the Church is where it should be. If there was a danger, look and see in which process we were not involved. Those who are active today, where were they then?”, said Bishop Iakob.
