The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia released information and video footage relating to the indictment of politician Aleksandre Elisashvili for attempting to commit a terrorist act in the Tbilisi City Court.
According to the information released by the Prosecutor's Office, a joint investigation conducted by the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia and the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that on November 29, at approximately 04:00, masked Aleksandre Elisashvili, armed with a firearm, ammunition, and items necessary for committing a terrorist act, approached the Tbilisi City Court building, used a hammer to break the glass of the outer facade of the court chancellery building, and entered the court's interior.
According to the agency, after illegally entering the building, Aleksandre Elisashvili poured a large amount of flammable substance on various parts of the interior, including items and documentation on the ground, and attempted to start a fire by lighting it.
"During the process of throwing flammable substances, Aleksandre Elisashvili was caught by the bailiffs. As soon as he saw one of the bailiffs, Aleksandre Elisashvili attacked him and began to beat him. During the arrest, three bailiffs tried to neutralize Aleksandre Elisashvili, destroy the means of setting fire to the flammable substance and disarm him. The attacker, in turn, tried to use a firearm. Aleksandre Elisashvili actively resisted the bailiffs for about 5-6 minutes, after which it became possible to finally neutralize and detain him.
The detainee has been charged with attempting to commit a terrorist act under Part 1 of Article 19-323 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment of 10 to 15 years.
The Prosecutor's Office has already applied to the court with a motion to use pre-trial detention against the accused," reads the information.
