The judge of the Tetritskaro District Court, Vladimer Khuchua, has suspended the proceedings of several administrative offense cases under his review and appealed to the Constitutional Court of Georgia with constitutional submissions.
He confirmed this information to InterpressNews.
The judge is requesting that the amendments introduced in 2025 to the "Code of Administrative Offenses of Georgia" be declared unconstitutional. The changes concern the mandatory imposition of administrative detention in cases of failure to pay a fine imposed for committing an offense, as well as the mandatory deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle and other related rights for 3 to 5 years for illegal possession of a small amount of cannabis or marijuana.
Judge Vladimer Khuchua believes that these legislative amendments pose a threat to human rights protected by the Constitution of Georgia.
