Deputy Giga Parulava from “Gakharia for Georgia” commented on the charge filed against Aleko Elisashvili, one of the leaders of the coalition “Strong Georgia – Lelo”, saying that crimes such as attempts to set fire to the court, storming the President’s Palace, and provocative and revolutionary scenarios, which took place on October 4 and whose consequences are now clear, are favorable for the propaganda of the ruling party “Georgian Dream” and simultaneously please Georgia’s enemies.
According to Parulava, Elisashvili’s actions constitute a harmful and very serious crime.
"What we witnessed is, first and foremost, a harmful and extremely serious crime. Storming the President’s Palace, attempting to set fire to the court, provocative and revolutionary scenarios - these are actions that benefit the ruling party ‘Georgian Dream’ and please our enemies.
This is the kind of action that strengthens ‘Georgian Dream’ propaganda and pleases our enemies.
This specific action is a harmful and very serious crime. Crimes of this type - attempting to set fire to the court, storming the President’s Palace, provocative and revolutionary scenarios, like those on October 4, the consequences of which are now clear - favor ‘Georgian Dream’ propaganda and simultaneously please our enemies. This is unacceptable to us, and from the very beginning, we said that the main focus in this country should be on pragmatic and peaceful politics," Parulava stated.
For reference, Aleko Elisashvili has been charged under Article 19-323, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to the attempt to commit a terrorist act. The prescribed punishment is imprisonment for 10 to 15 years. According to the investigation, masked Elisashvili, armed with a firearm, explosives, and items necessary for committing a terrorist act, approached the Tbilisi City Court building on November 29 at approximately 4:00 a.m. He broke the external glass of the court’s registry building with a hammer and entered the court’s interior.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, he poured a large amount of flammable substance on items and documents at the scene and attempted to start a fire. The investigation also reported that the politician attacked and beat one of the court’s clerks.
