The accusation of terrorism is absurd and ridiculous. Alexander is not a terrorist. He has spent his whole life trying to prove something to his homeland, to show his love for it, - this was stated by Irina Kilosanidze, the wife of politician Aleko Elisashvili, one of the leaders of Lelo – Strong Georgia, who was detained on charges of attempting a terrorist act, in an interview with InterpressNews.
According to her, what she heard from Aleko Elisashvili during the court trial is convincing to her.
“During the day, he was at the office and then came home. I was going to the protest around 8 o’clock, and he told me he was going fishing - he even told this to our child. When I returned from the protest, he wasn’t home. In the morning, I was told he had been arrested. What he spoke about is completely convincing to me. I do not believe in conspiracy theories. I know exactly that over the past year and a half, due to all the actions of ‘Georgian Dream’ and so many injustices, he could not accept it. Since he couldn’t oppose them in any way, he probably came up with this form to show the court and everyone that the judicial system has turned into a conveyor belt sending everyone to prison. You can’t expect a politician to be loved by everyone. I don’t like any politician myself. If he is not your husband, child, or father, you are not obliged to like him and should look at things critically, but I really want the public to understand his action correctly. What he said, I know it is true. I believe in what motivated him to take this action, and I want people to understand it correctly.”
“The accusation of terrorism is absurd, ridiculous. Alexander is not a terrorist; he has spent his life trying to prove his love for his homeland. This is his own phrasing. These are also his words - in this way, sometimes unusual or even comical to some, he tried to prove something,” Kilosanidze added.
For reference, Aleko Elisashvili has been charged under Article 19-323, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which covers the attempt to commit a terrorist act. The act carries a sentence of 10 to 15 years of imprisonment.
According to the investigation, on November 29, at approximately 04:00, masked Aleko Elisashvili, armed with a firearm, combat materials, and items necessary to carry out a terrorist act, approached the Tbilisi City Court building, broke the exterior glass of the court chancery building using a hammer, and entered the internal premises.
Prosecutors report that he poured large amounts of flammable substances on objects and documents at the scene and attempted to start a fire. Additionally, according to the investigation, the politician attacked and beat one of the court’s mandate officers.
