There is no fact that would confirm that we have any type of connection with the Russian government, Mikheil Kavelashvili said in an interview with Deutsche Welle.
According to him, the ruling party has promised that the time will come when the people of Georgia will live together in a unified state with their brothers and sisters who are currently in the temporarily lost territories.
“Of course, we think about those territories that we consider temporarily lost, about those people who still live there. We regard them as our brothers and sisters. As I mentioned at the UN General Assembly, the ruling party has promised that the time will come when we will live together in a unified state. We will continue to develop and take care of each other just as we did before,” Kavelashvili said.
When asked by the journalist what he would say to those who claim that the government is too close to Moscow in terms of its policies, Kavelashvili responded that Georgia’s policy is based on its national interests.
“The whole world is motivated to stop Russia. How do you think we will be able to regain our territories if our relationship with Russia is aggressive? Is there any other way to regain our territories? We are not a NATO member, NATO refused that. We are not an EU member state either. If you look closely, our policy - the policy of our government - is based on pragmatic, balanced and realistic models. There was a time when we were left without support, and our policy stems from this unfortunate experience. Our policy is based on our national interests,” Kavelashvili said.
