Sukhishvili Brings Georgian Grandeur to Carnegie Hall - a New Era of Cultural Exchange Between Georgia and the United States

For 80 years, the Georgian National Ballet სუხიშვილები - Sukhishvilebi, has been creating a path that has turned the name of the ensemble into a brand. A brand the main mission of which is to protect cultural identity and transform it in a modern space.

On January 17, in New York, on the most prestigious stage in the world, Carnegie Hall, the legendary Georgian ensemble will become a treasure chest of Georgian treasures and will present Georgian culture and traditions with an unreal, indescribable performance.

New York will host a large-scale series of events of the Georgian Culture Days on January 16–17–18. This will be a significant event in the history of the “Sukhishvili”, as for the first time in 80 years since its foundation, despite having performed over 10,000 concerts around the world, the ensemble will make its debut on a stage that remembers the performances of the greatest artists. And the great Georgian ensemble will join their ranks.

On the stage of Carnegie Hall, the legendary ensemble will perform the most popular dances based on the historical past of Georgia and the genetic character of the nation, representing the values and identity of the country. All attention will be focused on the physical skill and precision that characterizes the “Sukhishvili”. Energetic, technically complex choreography performed by men and sophisticated, original compositions and elegant dances by women accompanied by a live orchestra will make the Carnegie Hall a center of cultural attraction for the main event on January 17. It will be a presentation of the treasures of Georgian culture for over 2,800 guests who will attend the performance.

Today, the director and general producer of the National Ballet is Nino Sukhishvili, who, together with her brother Iliko Sukhishvili, continues the work of her grandparents and father. Like 80 years ago, the main values of the ensemble remain loyalty, hard work, love for work and leadership. Nino Sukhishvili notes that performing in Carnegie Hall is a kind of responsibility for the ensemble, but at the same time, it is an expectation and joy:

“We have performed on many famous stages and theaters across the United States, but this will be our first performance at Carnegie Hall. Of course, we have very high expectations and this will be a very important stage for all artists. Carnegie Hall hosting us is truly a historic event in the history of our ensemble,” said Nino Sukhishvili.

It all starts on January 16, at Rockefeller Center, with an official diplomatic and cultural pre-reception for the Carnegie Hall evening. The reception will be attended by diplomatic representatives, business leaders, cultural institutions, and guests invited from both the Georgian and American communities.

It is characteristic that the cultural evenings are supported by Georgian businesses, with the help of which more people across the ocean will learn about the values of the country. Among them are Askaneli, Borjomi, Bank of Georgia, Metropol and e-Consul. The media supporter of the series of cultural events will be UM Georgia.

Georgian hospitability is unimaginable without wine, therefore at the reception guests will have the opportunity to taste Georgian wine, with its specifics presented in detail by Madame Sommelier. This will be a unique pairing of Georgian wines with international cuisine, showcasing the 8,000-year history and traditions of Georgian winemaking. Another treasure of Georgia, Borjomi mineral water, will also be an important component of the reception. Presenting its history and significance to the New York community will help to further showcase the country’s heritage.

Gocha Chkhaidze - Founder of Askaneli: “I think this is an important story for our country, because I am sure that more than 50% of the hall will be filled with New Yorkers, and interest towards Georgia will further increase.”

Natalia Shatirishvili – Head of Migrants Banking Department at Bank of Georgia: It is a great honor for us to be the sponsor of such an amazing event and we are glad that our emigrants will have the opportunity to attend such an amazing concert. We always support various cultural events, and this is the case when we have a particularly outstanding event awaiting us and we are very proud of it.”

Mamuka Imedashvili - Deputy Director General of Metropol: “It makes us very proud that we will be participants and supporters of this historic and important day. Probably, any Georgian would wish to support all the events serving the recognition and development of Georgian culture.”

Mariam Zivzivadze – Head of Sales and Customer Relations at e-Consul: “It is a great honor for us to collaborate with a national symbol such as the Georgian National Ballet ‘Sukhishvili.’ The fact that they place their trust in e-Consul is, of course, doubly a responsibility for us.”

The Georgian Days in New York will provide an opportunity to explore different cultures, engage in informal networking, and establish new connections. The Georgian diaspora in the U.S., for whom maintaining connection with national values and culture is essential, will also attend the event.

The final performance - Project ASSA will take place on January 18, marking the grand finale of the Georgian National Ballet “Sukhishvili” events in New York City. This event will bring together more than 700 attendees. Hosted at one of New York’s leading night venues in Brooklyn, Williamsburg -a neighborhood known for being a leader in New York nightlife - ASSA will transform the space into a dynamic blend of Georgian artistry and contemporary nightlife energy. This is a ticketed, independently produced event, designed to provide a relaxed and festive environment following Sukhishvili’s landmark performance at Carnegie Hall.

Presentation of Georgian culture across the ocean is supported and organized by Emolas Corporation — a U.S.-based cultural management and production company specializing in the creation and promotion of international events. The company was founded by Salome Liluashvili-Parks. Emolas Corporation’s portfolio includes large-scale performances on leading American stages, international artist tours, and various cultural collaborations.
