Voicing concerns about human rights violations should not be considered a ‘damage to state interests’, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defender, Mary Lawlor, wrote on social media.

“I’m hearing disturbing news that Tamar Oniani, the director of the Georgian Young Lawyer’s Association and an employee were summoned by the State Security Service for questioning over statements in a BBC documentary. They were also questioned as witnesses by a judge yesterday. Voicing concerns about human rights violations should not be considered a ‘damage to state interests’,” Mary Lawlor wrote on X.
