Guram Macharashvili: Gakharia’s team refused to participate in the historic investigative commission, and now they want to create a commission that will determine whether a parrot really lost its feathers or whether a dog kissed its owner - they are just trying to stay afloat politically

“Gakharia’s team did not participate in the historic investigative commission, and now they want to create a commission that, in their view, will determine whether a parrot really lost its feathers or whether a dog kissed its owner,” - said Guram Macharashvili, MP from People’s Power, responding to Giorgi Gakharia’s team’s initiative to set up a parliamentary investigative commission regarding the BBC’s journalistic investigation.

According to Macharashvili, the BBC’s main source has distanced himself, and the investigation will determine all the details about what really happened.

Macharashvili noted that the BBC will have to answer questions.

“As they say, lies have short legs - and some lies, especially recently, have no legs at all. Regarding the information released by the BBC, we can say that this short lie has absolutely no legs. The ‘evidence’ that their so-called source provided to the BBC about the alleged use of chemical weapons collapsed within a few hours - not even hours, within minutes, because the main ‘source’ distanced himself shortly after the publication of this disinformation.

As for Gakharia’s initiative to create an investigative commission - it is somewhat surprising. They did not participate in a truly historic investigative commission where they had quotas, and now they want to create a commission that, in their view, will determine whether a parrot really lost its feathers or whether a dog kissed its owner during the December protests, when some so-called chemical weapon was allegedly used. Is this their approach?

We can practically say that the main source has distanced himself from the BBC. Of course, we must wait for the investigation, which I am sure will determine whether anything was used, what was purchased, and when. This initiative simply means that they are trying to float on the political surface, nothing more. This is not an issue that can justify the creation of an investigative commission at this stage,” Macharashvili said.

Regarding criticism from the West, Macharashvili stated that unfair statements are being made, and Georgia will respond accordingly.

“‘Let me tell you something to break your heart’ - this is the policy of Euro-bureaucracy. They should look at their own countries and the problems they have there. Euro-bureaucracy has its own problems. Now they are making unfair statements, and we will certainly give an appropriate response,” Macharashvili said.
