Court finds Luka Kurtanidze guilty of domestic violence and sentences him to 7 months in prison

Batumi City Court has found Luka Kurtanidze — former “Georgian Dream” MP and veteran wrestler — guilty of domestic violence, while acquitting him of property invasion, damage to property, and violation of a restraining order.

Kurtanidze was sentenced to 7 months of imprisonment, but since he has been in custody since July, he will spend only about 2 more months in the penitentiary facility.

The defense agrees with the court’s decision.

“[The court] found him guilty under Article 126 of the Criminal Code and determined the sentence to be 7 months of imprisonment. The sentence started on July 27 — he has already served five months, and he will leave the penitentiary facility in about two months. He was found not guilty of violating property rights and damaging property. [He was assigned community service], but the strictest sentence absorbed the lesser ones, and the final sentence was set at seven months of imprisonment,” the lawyer stated.
