Ambassador of United Arab Emirates being heard at Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee session

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates, Ahmed Alnuaimi, is being heard at the session of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Parliament.

Ahmed Alnuaimi made an address at the beginning of the session, after which the session was closed as soon as the question-and-answer session began and is being held in a closed format.

Considering the agenda, the topic of the meeting and conversation with the Arab diplomat is Georgia-United Arab Emirates relations and the foreign policy of the United Arab Emirates.

Before the start of the hearing, the Chairman of the Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, made a statement.

“We have a practice of hearing ambassadors of friendly and partner countries in the committee, which was introduced in the previous parliament. I am glad that we have the opportunity to listen to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of our friendly country - the United Arab Emirates.

Ahmed Alnuaimi will speak about the relations between Georgia and the United Arab Emirates and the general foreign policy of the United Arab Emirates. Ahmed Alnuaimi has extensive experience in the diplomatic service. Before coming to Georgia, he was the Deputy Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the UN and international organizations accredited in Vienna for seven years.

As you know, recently the relations between Georgia and the United Arab Emirates have been developing very dynamically. There have been a number of high-level visits. We discussed it together and decided that it would be good if Mr. Ahmed Alnuaimi presented his own visions on the development of bilateral relations and foreign policy in general to the Foreign Relations Committee," said Nikoloz Samkharadze.

For information, according to the First Deputy Head of the State Security Service, Lasha Maghradze, the information voiced in the BBC film about the use of the substance "camite" against protesters in Georgia is complete and deliberate disinformation. As Maghradze notes, within the framework of the ongoing investigation, the agency was unable to question only one of the persons of interest to them, a former employee of the State Security Service, Lasha Shergelashvili, who he is wanted in another criminal case.

“Of the persons of interest to the investigation, it was not possible to interview the only witness, Lasha Shergelashvili, on whose information the opinions of the author of the story prepared by the BBC were largely based. It is noteworthy that the State Security Service is conducting operational-search and investigative actions against the aforementioned person in connection with one of the high-profile criminal cases in the recent past, which concerned the fact of the purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition, including the explosive substance TNT, by the accused Beka Chulukhadze”, he said.
