Murtaz Zodelava - I am ready to take all the articles on myself - if you want, add more, if it will make it possible to show a lenient attitude towards people who are honest in this case - please, make a plea agreement available to them

I am ready to take all the articles on myself. If you want, add more, if it will make it possible for the prosecutor's office to show a lenient attitude towards people who are honest in this case - please, either make a plea agreement available to them or some other form, - this is how the detained opposition politician Murtaz Zodelava addressed the prosecution at today's trial.

According to him, in the October 4 case they are "presented as a bandit, violent group".

As Zodelava noted at the court hearing, against this background, their opportunities to respond and defend themselves are limited.

“When talking about this case, we cannot escape the fact that there is a lot of propaganda here. Even today, government propaganda is working, and I have to respond to that too. It is impossible to talk with arguments.

We are being presented as a bandit, violent group, packaged in this way.

Ok, I have a political past, but these 64 people include a disabled person who has two children. Also, Manjgaladze, Beridze and others. I met many here at the previous trial. Also, there is Mr. Chavchanidze, who has never been a bandit, and there are women.

Propaganda has enormous power, and when it packages us like this, visualizes us like this, our capabilities are limited. The only way to respond is what we will say here. To say a few sentences once every two months. Why this is happening is a separate issue.

As for October 4. This was the last episode of almost 2-year protests, absolutely public, of certain individuals.

There was such a wave of insults towards women that there has never been before. That was my main motivator. It was my inner part. Our motivator was not selfish motives.

We are not criminals. How can a violent group be formed from honest citizens? In our speeches, we used the word “peace” more often than the “Dream” coordinators. We want Georgia not to be one-party and the way it is formed. Everyone knows how it was formed.

I am ready to take the blame for all injustices on myself. I am ready for this. My responsibility for October 4, the moral one I have, is number one, I cannot shift the burden onto someone else. I have more obligations.

As for the organizing group, this group was simply a political performance, an accompaniment to the action, someone had to communicate with the media. That was all the content," Zodelava said.

During his speech, he addressed prisoner Zura Chavchanidze and asked him to stop the hunger strike.

"I would like to address Chavchanidze. His health is deteriorating and maybe he will stop the hunger strike. Maybe some circumstances will cause him not to be harmed and to return to his country peacefully.

Also, Eva Shanshiashvili, this is also a request that maybe some different position can be taken towards this woman. There are seriously ill people, people of retirement age in the case”, he said.

Murtaz Zodelava has been charged under Article 19-222, Part 2, Subparagraph “a” of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to an attempt to seize and block strategic and special-importance facilities, committed by a group. He has also been charged under Article 225, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to organizing and leading group violence. He has also been charged under Article 317 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to calling for a violent change in the constitutional order of Georgia and the overthrow of state power, which provides for up to 9 years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.
