Vakho Turmanidze, head of the Shuakhevi District Police Department of the Police Department of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, and the head of the department’s detective division have been detained.
According to information released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Vakho Turmanidze falsely accused four individuals of stealing a large quantity of wood from his private property. Using his official authority, he demanded that these individuals compensate him for the alleged damage, threatening them with arrest if they refused.
As for the head of the detective division, he abused his official powers at the Goderdzi mountain ski resort in the Adjara region for personal gain, using his position to construct private cottages.
"Officers of the General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained two individuals for abuse of official powers (Article 332 of the Criminal Code).
The investigation established that Vakho Turmanidze, head of the Shuakhevi District Police Department of the Adjara Police, falsely accused four individuals of stealing a large quantity of wood from his private property. By abusing his official authority, he demanded compensation from these individuals and threatened them with arrest. The victims perceived the threat as real, and although they were not guilty of theft, they were forced to deliver a large amount of wood to him.
The investigation also revealed that the head of the detective division of the Shuakhevi District Police Department abused his official authority at the Goderdzi mountain ski resort in Adjara for personal gain, using his position to construct private cottages. Specifically, he systematically used official vehicles to safely transport various construction and timber materials on the site and instructed subordinate officers to carry out these tasks by abusing his official authority.
During investigative actions carried out by law enforcement, a particularly large quantity of timber was seized as evidence.
The investigation is ongoing to establish additional circumstances and clarify the legal qualification of the case," the statement reads.
