Mikheil Kavelashvili signed legislative amendments related to assemblies and demonstrations

Mikheil Kavelashvili has signed the legislative amendments concerning assemblies and demonstrations. The laws adopted by Parliament have been published in the Legislative Herald and entered into force immediately upon publication.

This week, Parliament reviewed and approved - under an accelerated procedure - a bill that extends restrictions on assemblies and demonstrations to protests held on pedestrian areas.

According to the amendments, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be required to issue a prior warning if an assembly or demonstration is held in areas intended for pedestrian movement. Additionally, similar to the prohibition on blocking roads for vehicle traffic, the law will now state that it is not permitted to artificially block pedestrian walkways unless the number of participants in the assembly or demonstration necessitates it.

It also becomes prohibited to block pedestrian walkways with cars, various constructions, or objects.
