Migration Department detains 28 foreign nationals: procedures underway for their deportation

Employees of the Migration Department have detained foreign nationals who were staying in Georgia without legal grounds. The detainees are citizens of Iran, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Bangladesh, Jordan, Ethiopia, and Afghanistan.

According to information released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a total of 28 foreign nationals were detained as a result of a comprehensive operation.

“Within the framework of combating illegal migration, employees of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted a special immigration control operation. Based on obtained information, department staff inspected specific locations during the operation, with the aim of identifying foreign nationals staying in Georgia without legal grounds.

As a result of the comprehensive operation, 28 foreign nationals were detained, including citizens of Iran, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Bangladesh, Jordan, Ethiopia, and Afghanistan. It was established that the detained individuals were staying in the country in violation of the requirements set out by the Law of Georgia on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.

Currently, the detainees have been placed in the Temporary Accommodation Center of the Migration Department. Relevant procedures are underway for their deportation from the country.
