Gia Volski: Marta Kos’s statement is exemplary for teaching a lesson about hypocrisy – “Hypocrisy in Politics” would be the title of this statement

“Marta Kos’s statement is exemplary for showing how to teach a lesson or give a lecture on hypocrisy—‘Hypocrisy in Politics’ would be the title of this statement,” Gia Volski, First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, told journalists, commenting on the statement by EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.

He said that the European Commission publishes research results every day, showing that Georgia surpasses many EU countries politically and economically, yet Marta Kos “stubbornly continues the line that amounts to ensuring Georgia’s involvement in bloodshed.”

“Certain circumstances have changed, but this main line has not. Today, they openly say—they no longer hide it—that Ukrainians are dying for Europe and that the EU is threatened by Russia. They openly say that Georgia needs a government that will involve the country in this misfortune. When this was being hidden, one could say, let’s have a discussion about what Marta Kos and Kaja Kallas are saying, but the fact is, they could think of nothing else except making statements full of foolishness. The Lithuanian Foreign Minister also said that everything will be revealed through elections. Certainly, it will be revealed through elections. Georgian society has confirmed through elections that it rejects the policies proposed by the Lithuanian Foreign Minister, who visited Georgia and called the people toward bloodshed. The people did not support that, and instead chose a path that ensures the country’s stability. Therefore, these statements are all anti-Georgian. If a Georgian-hating official makes statements like some we’ve heard recently, particularly lately, elections will continue in the future, and decisions will be made based on what our people and country need,” Volski said.

As a reminder, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated that she hopes Georgia’s government, with the support of the people, will return to the European path, “but, of course, that is in their hands.”

“The European Commission’s enlargement report contains recommendations and conclusions regarding Georgia. In this report, we state that Georgia is experiencing a democratic regression unlike any other country. We expect that if the country wants to move forward on the European path, they need to act differently. This concerns the government. Of course, we will continue supporting civil society and independent media, because this is very important—not only to give hope to the people, but also to tell the government that they are wrong if they do not consider the people’s will,” Kos said.

She added that she hopes Georgia will return to the European path.

“Indeed, I truly hope that Georgia’s government, with the support of your people, will return to the European path, but of course, that is in their hands,” the Commissioner said.
