Roberta Metsola - Mzia Amaglobeli and Andrzej Pochobut are the embodiment of bravery and valor - I appeal to all Georgians who see their future in the European Union, this Parliament stands firmly at your side

Mzia Amaglobeli and Andrzej Pochobut are the embodiment of bravery and valor, Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, said in Strasbourg, where the Sakharov Prize winners are being awarded.

“Mzia’s fight for our fundamental values stands as a beacon for all those who believe that freedom and duty must never be surrendered. This prize is for them. Their voices continue to echo across Europe and far beyond despite every attempt to silence them,” Metsola said.

She said the European Parliament will never stop defending the unconditional freedom of political prisoners, of journalists who are simply being held for doing their jobs.

“To all the people in Georgia who see their future in the European Union, this parliament firmly at your side and we reaffirm this in our resolutions, in our statements, in the work that we do in order to keep Georgia as close to Europe as it deserves and its people deserve,” the President of the European Parliament said.

Imprisoned journalists Mzia Amaglobeli, founder of Netgazeti and Batumelebi, and Belarusian journalist Andrzej Pochobut, have been awarded the 2025 Sakharov Prize.
