Gia Volski - There is no prerequisite for suspending visa-free travel for Georgia, although everything is possible - they will try, but this is not a clear-cut attitude

There is no prerequisite for suspending visa-free travel for Georgia, although everything is possible - they will try, but this is not a clear-cut attitude - people in Europe do not think that their taxes should be spent on war and organizing a revolution in Georgia, - the First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, Gia Volski, said when speaking about the conclusions of the European Council Presidency on enlargement.

According to him, "the level of justice that Brussels has offered us does not meet the standards that the European Union has."

"The list of criteria by which Brussels can suspend visa-free travel for 61 countries, not just Georgia, is quite extensive, although, as you know, it has been simplified. They decided to name applying for asylum, crossing the border, or entering Europe from third countries as the criteria. Of course, there are control mechanisms for all of this, and Georgia has this control well organized, there is less to argue about here. One issue remains, which concerns the attitude towards political opponents, but the hypocrisy and falsehood lies in the fact that they themselves organize the processes that the law should respond to, otherwise, the country will collapse. They say that the law should not respond to setting fires in the street, attacking police officers, revolutionary occupation of the parliament or presidential building. They tell us not to respond and of course, this cannot be done. The resolution was also not adopted, because the states do not have the same position. Therefore, the so-called chairman's document was adopted, a number of countries are in opposition, including because of their attitude towards Georgia. Hungary expressed its attitude that it would block the resolution, but this does not mean that if it had come to a vote, others would have supported it. The same situation exists regarding the termination of the visa-free regime. The level of justice that Brussels has proposed does not meet the standards that the European Union has. We are not the only ones talking about this, it is the American National Security Strategy that speaks of the regression of the European Union. There is no prerequisite for stopping visa-free travel for Georgia, although everything is possible. They will try, but this is not a clear-cut attitude, they do not think so in Europe. People in Europe do not think that their taxes are for war or revolution in Georgia. It should be spent on the arrangement," said Volski.

For information, the conclusions of the European Council Presidency on enlargement, published yesterday, note that Georgia's EU accession process has effectively reached a deadlock until the authorities demonstrate a firm commitment to changing course and returning to the path of EU accession.

In addition, the Council regrets Georgia's failure to implement the recommendations of the seventh report on the suspension mechanism and calls on the Georgian authorities to implement these recommendations and meet the visa liberalization criteria without delay.
