Nino Tsilosani on Liluashvili case - If these people are proven to be corrupt, we will have more anger than regret - we were all harmed by their actions, because they could not restrain themselves and misused their authority

If these people are proven to be corrupt and on such a large scale, we will probably feel more anger than regret that because of their actions, each of us was the object of attacks, negative perceptions and sentiments - we were all harmed because some people could not restrain themselves and misused their authority, - the Vice Speaker of the Parliament, Nino Tsilosani, told journalists regarding the case of the former head of the State Security Service, Grigol Liluashvili.

According to her, when there is a rule of law in the country, no position or membership in the team can be a guarantee that these processes will not be initiated against them.

"It is very unpleasant and difficult for us to talk about our former teammates. Among them, it is no less difficult for those law enforcement agencies and their leaders who are directly involved in these cases. But the fact is one - if these people are proven to be corrupt and on such a large scale, we will probably be more angry than sorry that each of us was the object of attacks, negative perceptions and attitudes due to their actions. Of course, we were all harmed because some people could not restrain themselves and misused their authority. I think that when there is the rule of law in a country, no position or membership in the team can be a guarantee that these processes will not be initiated against them. What has all this taught us? - This was happening during the most difficult period, when the country was facing both the threats of war and revolutionary scenarios, and all political efforts, as well as the mobilization of agencies, were fully focused on eliminating these risks. They caught the worst moment to do so (if confirmed). Of course, in these conditions, fighting on both flanks was unthinkable. Among them, we discovered all this within the team. It is also worth considering that a normal parliamentary and democratic system implies that there should be correct and objective opposition - we were also deprived of this and had to oppose ourselves and discover within ourselves the shortcomings that were in the case of a number of high-ranking officials,"- said Tsilosani.

For information, Grigol Liluashvili, the former head of the State Security Service, who came to the prosecutor's office for questioning, was detained yesterday. He is charged under Article 338, Part 2, Subparagraph "c" and Part 3, Subparagraph "e" of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which involves taking a bribe in a particularly large amount by a group by prior agreement and provides for a sentence of 11 to 15 years of imprisonment.
