We have no information that there was any violation of the law in the tender process, I have no information about what is hidden behind it, let's wait for the investigation, - the Secretary General of the Georgian Dream, Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, said about the case of the former director of the Kindergarten Management Agency, Kakha Gvantseladze.
Kaladze says that when he became mayor of the capital, Kakha Gvantseladze was already working in one of the municipal services.
As Kaladze notes, even if Gvantseladze was appointed by him to the post of director of the Kindergarten Management Agency, it does not matter, he will have to be held accountable if he has committed a crime.
“I was not [in the process]. If I had been, this would have resulted in an appropriate response from our side. I have appointed a lot of employees, but that doesn’t mean that… the city hall has the relevant departments, there are about 30,000 employees. It doesn’t matter, even if Gvantseladze was appointed by him to the post of director of the Kindergarten Management Agency, he will have to be held accountable if he has committed a crime.
When I went to the city hall, Kakha Gvantseladze was already working there. What does my staff mean?! I don’t have staff. When I appoint people to various positions, I evaluate their performance, professionalism, etc. When I became the mayor of the capital in 2017, Kakha Gvantseladze worked in some department of the municipality.
Anyone who commits a crime is responsible to the law. I am not the controller. The relevant agencies are the controllers. You are very funny. There are about 30,000 employees in the municipality, accordingly, if someone commits a crime, they should be held accountable.
Let's not violate the presumption of innocence. The investigation is ongoing and let's wait. Let's not make a statement in advance. It doesn't matter who is who, in the case of all people, it is important to protect the presumption of innocence,” Kaladze said.
In addition, he spoke about the detention of the former head of the State Security Service, Grigol Liluashvili, and noted that “humanly, it is disappointing when your former teammate is detained.”
“I can't say anything more than what we heard. It's just, of course, humanly, it is disappointing when your former teammate is detained. We fought with this person for years, he was a member of the team, and it is a very difficult fact. Let's wait and see how the investigation will proceed. There are many questions in society and I am sure that everyone and everything will be given an appropriate answer,” Kaladze said.
For information, the former head of the State Security Service, Grigol Liluashvili, was arrested on December 23. He is accused of taking bribes in several criminal cases. Out of the 4 ongoing cases, one of them involves the former director of the Kindergarten Agency, Kakha Gvantseladze.
