Two people accused of bribery and aiding and abetting bribery in Kaspi Municipality have been sent to pre-trial detention.
The decision was made by Tbilisi City Court Judge Davit Kurtanidze.
According to the lawyer, the motion filed by the prosecution, which requested pre-trial detention, was not sufficiently substantiated.
The lawyer requested the detainees to be released on bail of 10,000 GEL each.
According to the lawyer, his clients cooperated with the investigation and asked for forgiveness.
As Girshel Dzbezniauri explained, the accused Nizlam Sharifov has a serious health condition - he is fighting cancer and has undergone two surgeries. According to the lawyer, it will be difficult for him to be in prison, as he takes medication every day.
As for the second accused, Khatuna Kakhishvili, the lawyer said that she is the breadwinner of the family, who has served the state, villages and people for many years, where she had to perform her duties for years. She has 2 children, only one of whom works, the rest depend on her.
Based on these circumstances, the defense requested hwe release on bail.
The next trial has been +scheduled for February 23.
For information, as a result of large-scale anti-corruption measures carried out by employees of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service in various regions of Georgia during the day, 4 people were detained in connection for corruption and other crimes revealed in 4 different criminal cases, and in total 11 people were brought to justice.
In particular, the case concerns the second episode of the aforementioned investigation - the fact of bribery and assistance in bribery in Kaspi Municipality, for which an employee of the National Food Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and one citizen have been detained, with whose help the agency employee, in exchange for 560 GEL, prepared fake certificates necessary for the sale of beef in such a way that neither the suitability of the meat nor the safety of the consumer were guaranteed.
