Bakur Kvashilava: It turns out that the ‘clan’ that opposes Farchaladze has won - under this government, it is impossible for any case to remain free of a political mark

"It turns out that the ‘clan’ that opposes Farchaladze has won - under this government, it is impossible for any case to remain free of a political mark. The U.S. administration has understood the significance of the Russia–Ukraine war for global peace and the international agenda - Russia’s demands cannot be met by any independent country, because this would effectively be capitulation,” said Bakur Kvashilava, Secretary General of Freedom Square, on PalitraNews’ program Day’s Newsroom on December 28, commenting on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the U.S., where he met U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to Kvashilava, there is no scenario under which Russia could emerge victorious from this conflict.

“For everyone, including Georgia and Georgians, it would be very pleasant and encouraging if the Russia–Ukraine war ends and the suffering experienced by the Ukrainian people stops. The assessments from both sides were positive - Ukraine and the U.S. remain allies. It is a fact that, on a personal level, Trump and Zelenskyy understood each other. The U.S. administration has understood the importance of the Russia–Ukraine war for global peace and the international agenda. An aggressor should not be allowed to seize by force what does not belong to it.

Trump has taken Ukraine’s views on the war into account. He understands that Russia’s demands cannot be met by any independent country, because that would be effectively capitulation. We can say that the ball is now in Russia’s court.

There is no scenario or option in which Russia wins this war. Russia will come out of this war weakened. It is impossible for Russia to seize territories without remaining subject to financial and economic sanctions. Negotiations today are about under what conditions and when it will be possible for Russia to return to the civilized world. Russia today is outside the civilized world and operates as such - this is the same situation as our government. This is the parallel with Russia. Russia is in this situation because it attacked another country; our government is in this situation because it attacked its own people,” Bakur Kvashilava stated.

Regarding other issues, Kvashilava also commented on the charges against Otar Romanov Farchaladze, former Prosecutor General of Georgia, in connection with a murder organized by Levan Jangveladze. Kvashilava said that “under this government, it is impossible for any case that matters to society to remain free of a political mark.”

“Farchaladze held a high position in Georgian Dream, then became its treasurer, and was a person of great influence, whom the U.S. government identified as an agent of Russian intelligence and sanctioned. We remember how the entire system and Georgian Dream defended him tooth and nail. Also, the National Bank and its president issued a special order that allowed him to hide funds in his account, leading to the resignation of top officials from the National Bank. Georgian Dream is fundamentally connected to criminal groups and illicit financial gain. Therefore, what is happening is a confrontation between one clan and another. It turns out that the clan opposing Farchaladze won, and this decision was made accordingly. This entire series of corrupt arrests is nothing more than an internal redistribution of illegal money and revenues within Georgian Dream. This is an internal clan conflict, likely linked to an international criminal. Georgian Dream is preoccupied with violating the Constitution and introducing laughable laws, such as banning standing on sidewalks. I could not imagine any government coming up with such absurdity,” said Bakur Kvashilava.

Kvashilava also responded to the Prime Minister’s statements regarding food prices, noting that it has become impossible to hide the real situation in the country.

“Despite the information published by the Statistics Office, which states that the country has had 10% economic growth over the last three years, it has become impossible to hide that over the same period, the situation has worsened for 80% of the population. The Statistics Office, which tells us that inflation is between 5% and 7%, or even lower, includes products in the consumer basket that most of the population does not use, making self-deception impossible. The media they control and their economic-analytical shows could not justify this either. They are not economists, and not even lawyers, because they banned standing on sidewalks and are going against the Constitution,” Bakur Kvashilava said.
