“When the violence was raging, there was a connection and communication between Akhalaia and the individuals implicated in this violence. What were they talking about - were they discussing Ilia Chavchavadze, Shota Rustaveli, or Shakespeare?”
This is how Davit Matikashvili, Chairman of the Parliament’s Procedural Issues Committee, responded to a statement by Bacho Akhalaia’s lawyer, who claimed that Akhalaia is “astonished because he does not recall any case where someone was arrested solely because of a phone call.”
Matikashvili described this as “deception.” He added that for the public, everything is already very clear and understandable.
“This is deception and an attempt to cast doubt, using some fabricated, nonexistent paradigm, on the very meticulously published chronology of hundreds of interactions that took place on the night of October 4. On that night, when the violence was raging, Akhalaia and the individuals implicated in this violence were in contact and communicating. What were they talking about - Ilia Chavchavadze, Shota Rustaveli, or Shakespeare? What was being discussed on that tragic night, when, apparently, everyone involved in the violence was receiving orders in this manner? The corresponding evidence will be presented in court. For the public, probably, everything is already very clear and understandable,” Matikashvili stated.
