Speaking at a session of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission regarding the commission’s decision, Tazo Datunashvili, a member of Lelo – Strong Georgia, said:
“All this talk by Georgian Dream about prices, and why they have been endlessly discussing them, reflects the negative expectations regarding prices in the upcoming months - fiscal policy is being handled by amateurs,” Datunashvili said.
He added that during the first quarter of the year, inflation is expected to rise above predictable levels.
“All this talk by Georgian Dream about prices reflects the negative expectations for the coming months. During the first quarter, inflation is expected to increase even above predictable levels. This means that tariffs and prices for everything will rise. The electricity fee, which would have been an additional factor in increasing prices, has been postponed for three months. Already, people realize that they are entering a very sensitive topic themselves - the spiral has been activated. The three-month grace period will be felt by every citizen in Georgia, which is positive. This postponement confirms once again that we are still facing a very difficult situation with prices, and expectations for inflation in the coming months are catastrophic because fiscal policy is being managed by amateurs,” Datunashvili noted.
For reference, planned changes to the electricity consumer tariff have been postponed for three months. This decision was announced at a session of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission.
